Charles Esser has been Secretary General of E.DSO, the European Association of Distribution System Operators since December 2023. E.DSO’s membership consists of large and medium-size electricity DSOs. Previously, Mr Esser was Secretary General of the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER) (the European Association of energy-sector national regulatory authorities) for four-and-a-half years and working in another position at CEER previous to that that focused on DSOs and retail energy markets. Before working for CEER, he was an independent consultant and freelance journalist with a wide variety of clients. Earlier in his career he was an analyst with the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Crisis Group in Brussels and the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Mr Esser has a Master of Arts in International Relations and International Economics from the Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
