Associate Professor DUTH
Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Engineering
Doctor of Chemical Engineering
Konstantinos Elmasidis received his Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1995 and his Ph.D. from the University of Patras in 2000.
From 2002 to 2006 he worked as Head of the Research and Development (R&D) Department of GERMANOS SA and from 2006 to 2014 as Head of the R&D Department of SUNLIGHT Systems SA. As part of his responsibilities as head of the R&D department, he led a team of 15 engineers to carry out projects related to the design and development of energy storage batteries (mainly lead-acid and lithium-ion) as well as hybrid power supply systems based on renewable energy sources. Several of the company’s production lines house products developed by the R&D department (special specification lead-acid batteries, autonomous power supply systems using photovoltaic cells).
Representing the companies GERMANOS ABEE and SUNLIGHT Systems ABEE, he collaborated with many academic institutions and companies in Greece and abroad in the framework of research and demonstration projects, partly subsidised by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology and the European Union, as an experienced researcher and as coordinator in some of them.
In 2014 he was recruited by the Democritus University of Thrace. His research focuses on (a) energy management of hybrid systems based on technologies that convert renewable energy sources (solar and wind) into electricity and (b) the development of active materials and energy storage systems and the electrochemical study of energy storage systems. He has published 34 articles in international journals and 52 conference proceedings (citation index >1350, h-index: 14).
