Dr George Christoforidis is Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the UoWM. He holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1998), a Master’s degree in Power Electronics & Motor Driving Methods (with distinction) from the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering of the University of Birmingham, UK (1999) and a Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2004). His Ph.D. was supported by grants from GSRI and PPC. In the period 2010-2019 he was Assistant and Senior Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Technological University of Western Macedonia and in 2019 he joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Western Macedonia. His research interests are related to power systems, applications of artificial intelligence in power systems, distributed generation, smart grids and storage systems. He has held researcher/principal investigator positions in more than 25 international/national projects in the field of power systems. He has published more than 50 papers in international journals, more than 100 papers in proceedings of international refereed conferences and 2 books, with more than 2000 citations (Google Scholar). He is a member of TEEE, CIGRE, ASHRAE, IEEE (senior member), ETIP SNET WG3 (co-chair) and EERA JP in Energy Storage (deputy coordinator). He has also served as Chair/Vice-Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering, TEIM (2013-2019) and member of the Steering Committee of the Institute for Energy Development and Transition to the Post-Liberal Era, PPA
